There have been a number of releases on tape, video, DVD and now Blu-Ray. Each previous release was wanting, including the DVD release from Troma. which had a precious interview with Naschy (one of his last) about the film and its director, Jose Luis Merino, who does a commentary, too. Surprisingly, it was Full Moon that did the impossible at this point. It released, on Blu-Ray, the definite film, from the holder of the element in Europe, remastered from the original negative. The film has never looked this good, clean and complete.
At first, Full Moon was in trouble. Their Blu-Ray, which was meant in part to introduce their Euro line, was faulty. A jittery effect whenever there was movement made the disc unwatchable. (Where was quality control on this?) Thankfully, and at the company's expense, Full Moon did a redo with the problem fixed and the frame rate corrected. It is this second release that all Naschy lovers should get. (The first release has the added feature of a murky dupe of their VHS. If you have this, you have the faulty version.)
More to come!
